The emergency ward of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) has been sealed as two doctors posted at the ward and six nurses tested positive for COVID-19.

The emergency ward will remain sealed off until further notice, as per the hospital authorities.

As swab samples of other staffers have been collected for PCR tests, resumption of emergency services is dependent on the test results.

On Wednesday, 110 new cases were reported in Kathmandu alone taking the city’s active cases to over 1,100.

Similarly, Kapilvastu Hospital has been sealed for a week after 18 health workers including three doctors tested positive for COVID-19.

The District Administration Office decided to re-impose lockdown and seal the hospital following community spread of COVID-19 in in the area, according to Chief District Officer Dirga Narayan Pandey.

In Kapilvastu alone, 901 people have tested positive for the virus as of Thursday while one local businessman succumbed to the disease the same day.

Likewise, Mechi AMDA Hospital of Mechinagar, Dhulabari in Jhapa has been sealed after a doctor at the hospital was diagnosed with COVID-19.

This is the first case of a doctor being diagnosed with COVID-19 in Mechinagar and the second case of COVID-19 infection in the community.

In the wake of rising spread of COVID-19 infection in the community, the COVID-19 municipality’s Infection Control Taskforce has declared a week-long lockdown across the Mechinagar.

A total of 391 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Jhapa district as of Thursday.

Similarly, the emergency ward of Chitwan Bharatpur Hospital has been sealed after a nurse tested positive for COVID-19.

As many as 13 of among the 16 people who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday had come to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment.

With this, health workers have confirmed community transmission of the virus in Bharatpur. Discussions to reimpose lockdown in the area are currently underway.

In Chitwan, 130 people have tested positive for COVID 19 and two have died due to the disease as of Thursday.
