The Metropolitan Police Circle, Bhaktapur, on Sunday, arrested two males on the charge of taking hostage and gang-raping a 16-year-old girl multiple times for two days inside a public bus in Bhaktapur.

Police arrested Nir Kumar Khadka, 22, and Surya Shrestha, 21, of Sindhupalchowk district after some locals informed the police, noticing that the girl was being raped inside the bus.

According to the police, the girl was first drugged and brought into a rented room of a public bus driver from Ratnapark, Kathmandu to Bhaktapur on October 2. The girl was kept at his rented room at Liwali, Changu Narayan Municipality until the next day, where the man reportedly raped the girl.

Later around at 11:00 pm the same day, the girl was taken to a public bus (Ba 3 Kha 2612) parked on the banks of the Tabiya Khusi River, Liwali.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Keshab Kumar Thebe, informed that the atrocity continued the next day as well.

Police arrested the two and presented them before the Bhaktapur District Court on Sunday. The court has extended the judicial custody of them both by seven days for further investigation.

However, the main accused who had taken the girl to his room and raped her, and another suspect are at large.

Meanwhile, District Police Office, Biratnagar arrested 21-year-old Gaurav Shah of Biratnagar-16 on the charge of raping a five-year-old girl. Shah was a home tutor to the child.

According to DSP Man Bahadur Rai, Shah was arrested as per the complaint filed by the survivor’s family at the Police Office on Saturday. The accused is said to have been tutoring four kids in the same home for the past six months.

Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
