Kathmandu, August 7

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has started a campaign today to make the ‘no-horn’ policy effective inside the valley.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the campaign this morning, KMC Mayor Balendra Shah asked motorists to be patient and travel without honking to make the no-horn campaign a success.

This campaign will be implemented in cooperation with Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Padmakanya Multiple Campus and Kantipur Dental College and Hospital.

Under the provision, if people are found of using the horn unnecessarily will be fined Rs 500.

As per the campaign, people can use the horn only if there is a danger of a serious accident or in blindspots where users cannot see the road during turns. Even in such risky situations, only small horns will be allowed. The rule will also exempt emergency vehicles such as ambulances, security personnel, hearses, fire engines etc.

Kathmandu first started the campaign in 2017, but due to a lack of effective enforcement, the campaign was not properly implemented.
