The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) is set to host the Third National Dialogue on Anticipatory Action on May 9th and 10th, 2024.
With the theme “Towards a National Framework for Anticipatory Action,” the conference aims to fortify Nepal’s disaster management strategies by gathering insights from a diverse array of stakeholders.
The event will focus on the development of a Multi-hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) that prioritizes user needs. Aligned with the global Early Warning for All Initiative, Nepal’s framework seeks to enhance forecasting accuracy and streamline risk communication channels.
Moreover, discussions on financing mechanisms are tailored for anticipatory action. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) is spearheading efforts to explore predetermined financing avenues such as the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF), and Start Fund. These mechanisms aim to expedite response efforts and mitigate the impact of disasters effectively.
Additionally, it will focus on integrating anticipatory action with social protection programs to address post-disaster needs. This includes linking anticipatory measures with social safety nets and prioritizing vulnerable populations through protection, gender, and inclusion principles.
