On Monday night, Lal Mohammad of Hariwan-2, Sarlahi, died due after he was publicly gunned down outside his current resident in Gothatar. Mohammad, who had just returned home, was shot three times and chased around his car by two people.

His driver called Police Control and informed about the shooting. After that, the police arrived and took him to the nearby Shankarapur Hospital. Mohammad could not be treated at Shankarapur Hospital as he received two rounds of bullets in the head and one round in the right thigh. Hence, he was taken to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj for further treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to neighbours, Mohammad operated a garment factory and rented the third flat at a house in Gothatar where he lived with his family. “As soon as the daughter saw the shooting below, she jumped from the first floor, started chasing shooters,” as per a CCTV video circulating on social media.

As per witnesses, the shooter had worn red t-shirt, another perpetrator was chasing the victim and one person was waiting on the side of the road on a motorcycle, ready to flee.

Meanwhile, police have informed that the victim was involved in counterfeit Indian currency transactions from Nepal.

A team from the Kathmandu Crime Investigation Office and Kathmandu District Police has been deployed to investigate the incident, informed Ravindra Bahadur Dhanuk, Chief Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Kathmandu Police Office.

According to his family, there was an attack attempt at Mohammad a few weeks ago after which he had filed a complaint at the Jambudanda police station. The family members are upset with the police stating that the incident could have been prevented if they had taken the earlier complaint seriously.

After the incident, general public are in fear as the shooting happened publicly and many have also questioned the ability of the Police to keep the general public safe.
