The screening of the South Indian film ‘Adipurush’ has slowed in Kathmandu due to controversy surrounding a dialogue in the film that states Goddess Sita was born in India.
The umbrella organization of film halls sent a circular instructing all the halls across Nepal to stop the morning show of Adipurush. Most of the halls have postponed screening of the movie with only 1-2 shows in some movie halls.
According to sources, after KMC Mayor Balen warned that no Indian film will be allowed to be screened in the capital if the statement is not corrected, the dialogue has been removed.
However, the Spokesperson of the Nepal Film Development Board, Khetulal B.C has not yet confirmed whether or not the dialogue has been removed.
In a comment to Aawaaj News, the Spokesperson stated, “We are very concerned about the dialogue in the film ‘Adipurush’ as it is an issue of national pride, and we are looking into it.”
A meeting has been scheduled to address the issues, and the final decision on whether the film will be screened will be taken in the meeting.
