A Saurya Air plane crashed near Tribhuvan International Airport at approximately 11 a.m. shortly after taking off. The plane was headed to Pokhara. Rescue operations are currently underway.
According to airport officials, the crash did not damage other planes or nearby houses. Airport spokesperson Premnath Thakur stated that Saurya’s plane met with an accident while taking off from Tribhuvan Airport to Pokhara. He said there were 19 people on board, including crew members. Security personnel and airport firefighters are on at the site attempting to extinguish the fire.
According to preliminary report from Nepal police, “19 people were on board, all employees of Saurya Airlines, traveling to Pokhara for maintenance. As per reports, fifteen people died in the incident. Four people were rescued: three were taken to Teaching Hospital, and one, the captain of the aircraft, was taken to KMC Hospital for further treatment. The deceased are being transported to Teaching Hospital Maharajganj.”
Furthermore, TIA has been closed following the accident. Airport sources stated that all flights and landings have been halted. Dozens of flights have been affected, and the airport will remain closed until the rescue operations are completed. Domestic flights have been halted at their respective airports, while international flights have been diverted.
