Sandeep Lamichhane, former captain of the Nepali national cricket team, has been arrested at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.
Nepal Police arrested him after landing in Nepal via Qatar Airways flight from Doha which landed TIA, Kathmandu today morning.
The police handcuffed Sandeep but a handkerchief was placed over the handcuffs in an attempt to hide them.
He had announced that he will arrive in Nepal on October 6 and surrender to the authorities to fight a legal battle via his social media.
In another social media post, he had mentioned the time and flight via which he would arrive. “As per my sincere commitment to submit myself, I am landing at 10:00 am from Qatar Airways in the Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu. I have already informed to the Police Authority in written about my submission at will,”
“I have also made humble request to the authority for the presence of my lawful attorney Saroj Krishna Ghimire (Advocate) during the process of my submission to police authority to ensure my safety and security,” the post reads.
However, his lawyer Saroj Krishna Ghimire said that the police rejected the demands made by Sandeep to surrender in the presence of his lawyer.
Sandeep, who is accused of raping a 17-year-old minor girl, was taken to KMC Hospital for a medical checkup immediately upon his arrival in Kathmandu and then to Gaushala Police Circle for investigation.
