In comparison to the previous fiscal year, the domestic consumption of petroleum products has gone down as of late, according to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
Data provided by the NOC shows the consumption of petrol and diesel from mid-October to mid-November this year is 44,513 kiloliters and 78,426 kiloliters respectively. In the same time frame last year, 63,315 kiloliters of petrol and 135,812 kiloliters of diesel were consumed.
The NOC Spokesperson Binitmani Upadhyay said, in the past, the supplies of petroleum products would increase during festivals and elections, but this time the situation is different.
Sources have said that the liquidity crunch, the unfavorable season for development works, and the skyrocketing prices of petroleum products in the domestic and international markets are among the factors for the downfall.
Due to high prices of petroleum in the domestic markets, people have been observed to fill their tanks in Indian cities taking advantage of open borders in several parts of Southern Nepal.
