As many as 18 dead bodies have been recovered as of yet after more than three dozen houses were buried by a landslide in Lidi of Jugal Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchowk on Friday.

A total of 21 people are still missing, according to DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle.

“The bodies of 10 children, four women and four men have been found so far. 11 were found on Friday and seven more bodies were found Saturday,” said the DSP.

The deceased have been identified as Man Bahadur Dong, 30, Laxmi Dong, 11, Tikamaya Dong, 36, Tshering Dong, 14, Jite Jhankri, 80, Milan Dong, 8, Sonu Dong, 5, Jaya Bahadur Dong, 70, Dawa Lhamu Dong, 30, Priti Dong, 5, Dhanamaya Dong, 34, Maila Parang Dong, 16, Mekamaya Dong, 37, Chyama Dong, 19, and Bimala Dong, 7, four-month-old Rimesh Dong, five-month-old- Kanchhi Dong, and seven-month-old Kabir Dong.

They were cremated in a mass funeral on Saturday.

As many as 36 of the 172 houses in Lidi have been completely destroyed by the landslide.

Similarly, in Baglung, three persons, including two minors, died after a landslide buried their houses in Nisikhola Rural Municipality of the district on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Bali BK, 60, Birendra BK, 14 and Prabesh BK, 6. Their bodies were uncovered from the debris.

On Friday, six people, aged between 10 and 19, were killed in remote Kalikot in far west Nepal – four of them from the same family.  

Floods and landslides have so far killed 215 people in the country this year, while 85 are missing, according to official data.

Dibya Raj Poudel, of the Nepal Red Cross Society, said 40,000 people affected y monsoon-related disasters had been housed in temporary huts or were staying with relatives or friends.
