Devotees gathered at the Krishna Temple in Patan, Lalitpur, from early morning today to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami, the revered birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. The occasion is marked with deep devotion by followers of the Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion across the country.
Sri Krishna Janmashtami commemorates the midnight birth of Lord Krishna during Bhadrakrishna Ashtami in the Dwapar era. The day is sacredly referred to as ‘Krishna Janmashtami,’ while the night is celebrated as ‘Mohratri.’ Lord Krishna, revered as the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is celebrated for his teachings on Knowledge Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga, and for his lifelong commitment to truth, justice, and righteousness.
Devotees are offering prayers and performing rituals in Krishna temples nationwide, reciting hymns and scriptures in honor of the deity. Many will remain awake through the night, participating in various religious activities.
To manage the large crowds at the Krishna Temple in Patan, authorities have organized lines on the temple’s southern and northern sides. Volunteers from Nepal Scouts, alongside personnel from the Lalitpur Metropolitan Police, have been deployed to ensure the orderly flow of devotees.
The significance of this day is further highlighted by the teachings of the ‘Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta,’ a sacred Hindu text believed to be among the most widely translated books in the world. The scripture encapsulates Lord Krishna’s guidance and remains a central text for Hindus globally.
