The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) has issued a diffusion notice against Amala Roka, defendant in 61 kg gold smuggling case after a recommendation made by the National Control Bureau (NCB) Kathmandu.
According to Nawaraj Adhikari, spokesperson for the Central Investigation Department (CID), Roka’s involvement in the case came under intense scrutiny due to her association with Dawa Chiring, a Belgian citizen who was previously implicated in the same gold scandal.
It was revealed that Roka is the registered owner of Hotel Vienna in Thamel and also Chiring’s wife.
The issue started with the discovery of 61 kilograms of smuggled gold by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at Tribhuvan International Airport on July 18th 2023.
Subsequently, after 19 days of meticulous investigation, the DRI handed over the case file to the CID for further field investigation.
