Two children lost their lives and two others were injured following an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device on Thursday afternoon in Dandagaon, Falelung Rural Municipality-5. The device detonated while the children were playing, resulting in consequences.

According to the Panchthar District Police Office, the victims were identified as 11-year-old Deepsan Sanwa and his 2-year-old sister Prinsa, both children of Dilip Sanwa. Deepsan and Prinsa sustained severe injuries in the blast and were immediately rushed to District Hospital Phidim. However, despite medical efforts, Prinsa passed away en route to Ilam, and Deepsan succumbed to his injuries the following morning at B&C Hospital in Birtamod, Jhapa.

The incident also left two other children injured. Eleven-year-old Pawan Rai, son of Gyan Bahadur Rai, is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital. Meanwhile, seven-year-old Pawan, son of Deepak Rai, was treated at a local health center and has since returned home.

The explosion occurred in a house owned by Aitaraj Kerung, which was being occupied by Gyan Bahadur Rai’s family at the time. In the aftermath of the blast, the District Police Office Chief, Hemant Bhandari Chhetri, confirmed that additional suspicious items were discovered at the scene. A team from the Nepali Army has been deployed to defuse these items.
