Members of the LGBTQIA+ community of Nepal celebrated the 20th edition of the Gai Jatra Pride Parade in Kathmandu on Thursday. Celebrated annually since 2002, the parade sees enthusiastic participation of members of the LGBTQIA+ community, supporters, and allies.
Organized by the Blue Diamond Society, and celebrating inclusivity, members joined a Parade from Thamel to Tundikhel. A Pride Concert is also being organized at Tundikhel at 3 p.m.
The parade commemorates the community members who lost their lives in the past year. Due to social exclusion, many are driven to suicide, some to physical abuse or attacks, and even those dying of natural causes sometimes do not get respect, recognition, and remembrance from their relatives and families. The LGBTQIA+ community marches in their memory.
