Kanchanpur district is facing a heightened flood risk as the water level in the Mahakali River has surpassed the danger mark, with other rivers in the region also flowing at alarming levels. Continuous rainfall has worsened the situation, leading authorities to issue warnings to residents in low-lying areas.

Inspector Ishwor Thapa of the District Police Office confirmed the growing threat, particularly from the Mahakali River, as well as the Doda and Jogbudha rivers. Over 70 families, displaced by the Doda River’s rising waters, have already been relocated to safer locations. Flooding has also inundated areas in Bhimdutta municipality-12, following the overflow of the Bhujela River.

The water flow in the Mahakali River has surged to 351,000 cusecs, well above the danger threshold. In response, authorities have imposed restrictions on four-wheelers crossing the Sharada Barrage Bridge due to its deteriorating condition. Heavy vehicles have been banned from the bridge whenever the flow exceeds 10,000 cusecs.

With rain continuing and water levels rising, the District Administration Office has urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take preventive measures.
