Four members of a family were found dead in their house in Kavresthali on Monday morning. The family was permanent residents of Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality-6, Gorkha and were living in Tarakeshwar-2, Padamsal.

A 38 year old man, his 34 year old wife and the couple’s children aged 8 years and 13 years were found dead inside their house on Monday.

The incident came to light when the daughter did not arrive at her stop to get on her school bus on Monday morning. Her friends and neighbors called the family from outside the house, but no one responded. Eventually, neighbors informed police and the police broke into the house at around noon.

As per the preliminary investigation of Police, it is suspected that the husband killed his wife and two children using a kitchen cleaver while they were asleep, before committing suicide.

The investigation shows that the husband first attempted to hang himself but failed so, he killed himself using the same cleaver.

Marital discord could be the main reason for the murders, as per police and the neighbors. According to the police, the family had reached Balaju police station three times due to family conflict.

The husband, who returned to Nepal a few years ago after working 12 years on foreign soil, had sought divorce, but Sunita thought their divorce would hamper the future of her children, as per a police source.

The husband had also tried to sell their house and had taken the token amount however, Sunita, who was the legal owner of the house, refused to sell the house and returned the money to the buyer.

The wife was in the process of traveling to the UK to work, but the husband was opposed to the idea. She had also used their saving and sold off the fancy store she owned to go abroad.

The deceased wife had a visa to go to the UK for ‘seasonal work’ and was planning to give custody of her kids to her family side for which the couple had repeated huge arguments.

“The crime seems to have occurred all due to family disputes and it is very likely that the man killed his wife out of rage,” said Krishna Hari Maharjan, who visited the crime scene.

Meanwhile, police also recovered a suicide note from the crime scene written by Dinesh, accusing his wife for the incident, as per the police.
