The death toll from the landslide that struck Doramba Shailung rural municipality-3 in Ramechhap district has now reached eight.
The landslide, which occurred on August 25, swept away four houses in Lekharka, resulting in the loss of lives and the disappearance of several residents.
Initially, 11 people were reported missing after the rain-triggered landslide struck at midnight. Rescue teams managed to recover six bodies the following day, with one person being found alive. However, the recent discovery of two additional bodies has raised the confirmed death toll to eight, according to Pradeep Kumar Singh, Chief of the District Police Office.
The victims have been identified as Chandika Shrestha (30), her 18-month-old son Ayush Shrestha, Urmila Pahari (57), Sandip Pahari (30) , Santosh Pahari, and Bigyan Pahari (14). Their bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations were completed on Sunday, informed Kaushal Neupane, Information Officer at the District Police Office.
Search operations are still underway for the remaining two missing individuals, Pahari, 55, and Jhyaipuri Pahari, 50, both from the same ward.
