Nepal Police has arrested a group of 8 people who were found to be imposing as employees of Inland Revenue Office (IRO) and illegally collecting money from hotels and shops.

District Police Range Kathmandu has informed that 8 people have been arrested from New Buspark area of Kathmandu on charge of extorting money from hotels, restaurants and shops claiming to be officers of IRO, Lazimpat.

According to the Police, the scamming group has extorted more than 500,000 rupees from hotels, restaurants, shops and even from street vendors in the Buspark area.

The arrested are Srijana Bhattarai, Sagar Jung Luhar, Pramisa Tamang, Min Bahadur BK Dudhkala BK, Anjana Tamang, Rajiv Bista and David Dhami, said SSP Bharat Bohara, chief of Police Range, Kathmandu.

According to SSP Bohara, they all used to wear the uniform of Inland Revenue Officers and also had fake identity cards. After a local businessmen got suspicious and informed the police, they were arrested on Friday evening.

The police said they have found stamps, letterpads, receipts and identity cards similar to those of IRO were found from their rooms.

According to the police, they are being investigated for fraud-related crimes.
