As of 2nd of August 25 cases of Cholera has been confirmed in Lalitpur, Kathmandu, and Kailali. Lalitpur has reported 16 cases, Kailali 8, and Kathmandu 1.

In the past 24 hours, Lalitpur registered two new cases and two hospital admissions. No deaths related to cholera or Acute Watery Diarrhea have been reported so far.

The first case in Lalitpur was identified on July 19, 2024. This led to ten additional cases linked to a rehab center in Godawari Municipality, Ward-14, and five other independent cases. Kailali reported its initial cases on July 25, 2024, with two cases confirmed in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan, Ward-1, and six more cases in a nearby area. Kathmandu reported its first case on July 29, 2024, in Tokha Municipality.

Cholera can be caused through untreated community water supplies, heavy rainfall causing drainage overflow, and food washed with contaminated water. The affected districts have experienced cholera outbreaks in the past three years and have significant population movement.

Health officials have urged to use treated or boiled water and maintain personal hygiene to prevent further spread of the disease.
