The government has launched COVID-19 vaccination campaign from today. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the vaccination campaign through a video conference from Baluwatar on Wednesday morning.
After the inauguration of the campaign, the first vaccine was administered to the director of Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital in Teku, Kathmandu, Dr Sagar Rajbhandari.
Rajbhandari was chosen as the first candidate to receive the vaccine so as to convey the message that the vaccine was safe and people should not worry about it.
Vaccines against COVID-19 will be administered from 120 centers across the country, including 17 in the Kathmandu Valley.
In the first phase, the vaccine called ‘Covishield’ provided by the Government of India is being administered on Wednesday to health workers, sanitation workers, ambulance drivers, people managing the bodies, security personnel working at the vaccination center and employees working in old age homes on a priority basis.
