Advocate Dinesh Tripathi has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC), urging the nullification of the Cabinet’s decision on November 13th to ban TikTok in Nepal.
The petition posits that constitutional democracy and the rights and freedoms of citizens should be guided by the rule of law, contending that the TikTok ban contravenes this principle. Tripathi argues that the prohibition infringes upon the freedom of expression, thus calling for the rescission of the government’s decision. The writ is in the process of being registered.
The cabinet had cited ‘disruption in social harmony’ as the primary justification for banning TikTok in Nepal.
