Guillermo Fernández Vara, a close aide of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, is scheduled to come to Nepal on a four-day visit. Vara’s visit, scheduled on the first week of January in 2020, is aimed at promoting the country’s Visit Nepal 2020 campaign.
Guillermo is the president of the Regional Government of Extremadura from the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party. Chief of Lumbini Cultural Municipality, Manamohan Chaudhari, had extended an invitation to Vara when the former was in Spain.
According to Ekraj Giri, secretary general of Lumbini Garden Foundation, Vara’s Nepal visit is also expected to help in building a Buddhist Stupa in the city of Cáceres, Spain.
Lumbini Cultural Municipality has already sent a letter to the Nepali embassy in Madrid requesting to help arrange the Spanish leader’s meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other high-ranking Nepali officials.
The Spanish leader’s official visit is likely to encourage more Spanish citizens to come to Nepal. At least 15,000 Spanish tourists come to Nepal every year.
