Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, reacquired his Nepali citizenship certificate on Sunday.

According to Kathmandu Chief District Officer, Ghanshyam Upadhyaya, Lamichhane has regained his Nepali citizenship after completing the legal process.

Earlier Lamichhane had relinquished his American citizenship in 2018 after a complaint was lodged in the Press Council Nepal stating that he was working in Nepal without a work permit.

However, Lamichhane never applied to reclaim his citizenship for which the Supreme Court had ruled that the citizenship Lamichhane presented during the parliamentary election was invalid, revoking the status of Rabi Lamichhane as a lawmaker on Friday.

Similarly, his position as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister was also cancelled with the annulment of his position as a lawmaker.
