President Bidya Devi Bhandari has provided seven days to the members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and political parties for the formation of the new government under Article 76(2).

According to Article 76(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, any member of the House of Representatives can stake a claim to form the government with the support of two or more parties.

The President’s call comes after the submission of a report by the Election Commission (EC) of the final results of the election of members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assemblies (PA) held on November 20.

Issuing a notice on Sunday, the President’s Office has stated that anyone who can command a majority with the support of two or more parties shall submit a claim for the post of Prime Minister within 5 pm of 25 December 2022.

“As no political party got a majority, the President has asked any member of the House of Representatives who can prove majority with the support of two or more parties to submit a claim to be appointed as prime minister of Nepal,” the notice reads.
