The National Consumer Forum (NCF) has demanded an investigation stating that the relief materials distributed by the government is rigged.

NCF sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday demanding an inquiry into the complaintsof relief provided to families who are unable to afford food due to a lockdown for coronavirus preventionis being rigged by local level government.

There was involvement of huge economic upheaval in distributing the relief materials received from the federal government at the local level as well as complaints of distributionof underprivileged material as per NCF.

Local level, handling the distributions, are accused of asking bills of rent payment, proof of staying on rent, distributing only to their contact people and distributing less amount than needed to be distributed.

The memorandum by NCF says, “At a time like this serious problem for human when ward representatives should personally help people of their wards, asking unnecessary papers is believed to be a move for economic corruption.”

In particular, a complaint has been filed against Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Pokhara Metropolitan City, Dharan and ItahariSub-metropolitan City.

Government, on Sunday, announced to provide relief package to the working class and the daily wage earners in the unorganized areas affected by the adverse conditions caused by the lockdown to prevent possible infection of COVID-19.
