Lawmaker Laxmi Mahato Koiri of CPN-UML, who is accused of murdering Assistant Sub-Inspector Thaman BK, has been suspended. Koiri was elected to the House of Representatives from Mahottari-1.
Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire suspended Koiri after the Nepal Police sent a letter for the second time requesting support to arrest Koiri.
Koiri is accused of dragging Armed Police Force ASI BK from a police van and murdering him during the Madhesh movement on September 11, 2015.
Although the Dhanusha District Court had released Koiri on bail of NRs 100,000 for the felony, the Janakpur High Court overturned the decision and issued an arrest warrant against him.
Despite being on the police’s wanted list and deemed absconding for months, Koiri attended the oath-taking ceremony of new lawmakers and also attended a parliament meeting to vote in favour of a trust motion tabled by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on January 10.
