The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD), Singhadurbar, has mandated all public vehicle operators inside the Kathmandu Valley to display/paste transportation fare outside their vehicles following complaints galore of irregular hike in transportation fare.

Public transportation fare must be exactly the same as it was before the nationwide lockdown imposed on March 24, MTPD has stated. Action will be taken against public vehicles entrepreneurs flouting the rule, said traffic police.

MTPD introduced the rule in a bid to stop transportation entrepreneurs from deceiving passengers.

Public vehicle operators had started charging extra amount, with government’s permission, after public vehicles were mandated to operate with half of their total seat capacity. However, as they continued to charge extra fare even after the half capacity rule was lifted, traffic police personnel stepped up action against such vehicle operators.

More than 800 public vehicles plying inside the Valley will now have to display fare lists.

Spokesperson for MTPD, Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Prasad Yadav, said any vehicles found removing the rate list or not pasting new rates outside their vehicles within a week or so will face action.

SP Yadav also urged the public to call toll free number 103 to complain about public vehicle operators fleecing the passengers.
