Khagaraj Adhikari, the parliamentary leader of CPN (UML) in the Gandaki Province Assembly, has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of the province following the resignation of former Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey on Thursday.

The appointment was made by Province Chief Dilli Raj Bhatta in accordance with Article 168(2) of the Constitution.

Earlier, he sought to become the Chief Minister of the province by submitting a claim to the Province Chief, backed by 31 PA members, including 22 from the UML, eight from the CPN (Maoist Centre), and one independent.

However, Nepali Congress has expressed concern over the process of Adhikari’s appointment, deeming it unethical. Nanda Prasad Neupane, the NC Chief Whip for the province, emphasized the impropriety of securing support from the Speaker for the formation of a new government.
