Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, addressed the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, admitting that there were weaknesses in three aspects in the Balkumari incident that claimed two lives on Friday.

Shrestha identified shortcomings in the EPS Office Chief’s role, security officials failing in their responsibilities, and a lapse by the Nepal Police field commander. Those responsible have been suspended pending investigation.

A Probe Committee is formed to address the incident’s weaknesses, and a circular urges minimal use of force. A three-member Commission, led by former High Court judge Shekhar Poudel, will conduct an inquiry.
