The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) has issued a call for public input on the proposed Social Sites (Use and Regulations) Act of 2080 BS.

According to the Ministry, this initiative is aimed at fostering responsible and accountable use of social platforms, seeks to create a more decent, safe, and systematic online environment.

The Act’s primary objectives include “encouraging social goodwill, cultural tolerance, and good governance within the realm of social media.”

To ensure compliance, the draft of the Act introduces a mandatory registration process at the Social Sites Management Center for individuals, companies, or organizations intending to operate social site platforms.

The Ministry has invited submissions of feedback from the public with a deadline set for January 29th, 2024. Submissions can be made through the Ministry’s email at info@mocit.gov.np.
