The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has lodged a charge sheet against 32 individuals, including former Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, over allegations of corruption in the procurement of wide-body aircraft for Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC).
Among those implicated are high-ranking officials such as Sugat Ratna Kansakar, the former General Manager of NAC, Shankar Prasad Adhikari, government secretary and Chairman of NAC Board of Directors, and Shishir Kumar Dhungana, then Director General of Customs Department and NAC Board of Directors member.
The CIAA has demanded a recovery of Rs 1.471 million, pointing fingers at their purported involvement in the misappropriation during the procurement process.
According to the CIAA Spokesperson Narahari Ghimire, individuals such as Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, Joint Secretary of the Civil Aviation Ministry, and several members of the NAC Board of Directors including Teknath Acharya, Jiban Prakash Sitaula, Achyut Raj Pahadi, Nima Nuru Sherpa, and Muktiram Pandey, have also been named in the case.
Furthermore, it has filed lawsuits against representatives of the aircraft suppliers, citizens from Germany, Romania, and Moldova.
AAR International INC’s chief and four others are among those accused, with the CIAA seeking compensation of Rs 1.471 billion for their alleged involvement.
