According to a recent performance evaluation conducted by the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC), Bharatpur Metropolitan City has been declared as the best metropolis in Nepal.
The evaluation, which assessed various key indicators for the fiscal year 2022/23, aimed at determining the financial equalization grant allocated by the federal government to provinces and local levels in the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25.
Bharatpur Metropolitan City secured the top position among six metropolitan cities across the country, scoring 56.29 percent according to Jagannath Aryal, the Head of the Financial Administration Division of Bharatpur Metropolis.
The evaluation criteria encompassed a range of factors, including expenditure management, audit compliance, utilization of the local consolidated fund management system, periodic planning, division of revenue, local tax collection, and adherence to budget approval timelines.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City achieved 39.02 percent, Birgunj received 33.49 percent, Biratnagar secured 32.85 percent, Lalitpur obtained 25.18 percent, and Pokhara scored 20.74 percent in the evaluation.
