Political parties have reached a consensus to govern both houses of parliament and parliamentary committees based on a calendar prepared by the Parliament Secretariat.

Mahesh Bartola, the CPN-UML Parliamentary Party Whip, announced the parties’ agreement to run the House of Representatives (HoR) and the National Assembly in accordance with this calendar.

The HoR Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsina, have completed their preparations to ensure the smooth functioning of the Parliament and its committees with a focus on enhancing the effectiveness of meetings starting from the upcoming session.

Following discussions on the calendar, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire engaged with party whips and chief whips, confirming the parties’ commitment to adhere to the proposed schedule.

Initially, a 15-day calendar has been agreed upon for the HoR, allocating three days for parliamentary sessions and the remaining three for committee meetings. MPs will have the flexibility to visit their constituencies during non-scheduled committee meeting days.

The National Assembly Business Advisory Committee has given its nod to calendars for the months of Magh and Falgun.

President Ram Chandra Paudel has convened a joint meeting of both houses on February 5.
