The Kaski District Court has remanded SSP Rajendra Prasad Adhikari of Armed Police Force to judicial custody on the charge of rape.
A single bench of district judge Dipak Kumar Kharel issued the remand order on Tuesday after hearing on the case on Sunday and Monday.
The district attorney’s office has registered a charge sheet seeking up to 21 years’ jail sentence against SSP Adhikari.
Six advocates had participated in the hearing on behalf of the SSP. He has been sent to Kaski District Jail.
As per an oral report given to the Control Room of Kaski Police by the rape survivor, SSP Adhikari had invited her to have a meal at Armed Police Force Training Centre in Lamapatan-based Pokhara’s Training Academy and raped her on July 15.
The woman has alleged that SSP Adhikari gave her food laced with sedatives and raped her when she was under the influence.
Kaski police arrested SSP Adhikari the same day from Lamapatan. He was found hiding in a bush at the time of arrest.
Acting on the survivor’s complaint, a police team led by Superintendent of Police Jevan Kumar Shrestha of Kaski District Police Office had arrested SSP Adhikari. After a police team led by a DSP from the District Police Office failed to trace the rape accused, SP Shrestha himself had ventured out to make the arrest.
