Several Nepali travel companies have lost millions of rupees after a group of foreign hackers hacked the ticket sales system.

The system of travel companies selling international air tickets through the Global Distribution System (GDS) was hacked by sending them fake emails on behalf of GDS Company.

Deurali Travels, Cosmo Travels, and C Link Travels are among the companies bearing losses due to hacking. It is informed that the hackers issued tickets worth Rs 6 million to Rs 8 million from each company.

“The foreign hackers issued tickets overnight by sending fake emails to the travel companies on behalf of GDS Company with authentic-looking logos,” said Chairperson of Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) Ramesh Thapa.

Chair Thapa further shared that the hackers were issuing most of the tickets to Morocco. The victim travel agencies have already registered a case at the cyber bureau.
