A landslide claimed six lives in Naku of Mahawai Rural Municipality-3, Kalikot at around midnight Friday.

The landslide buried the house of a ward member, Raj Bahadur Bista, killing his sons – 13-year-old Pushpa Bista and 11-year-old Prabin Bista as well as daughters — 18-year-old Sabina Bista and 15-year-old Asha Bista.

Similarly, 19-year-old Shanti Bista and 10-year-old Rekha Bista – the two daughters of Raj Bahadur’s brother, Dil Bahadur Bista – were also killed when a landslide buried their house at 12:30 am on Friday.

The bodies of the deceased were unearthed from the rubble by local residents and police.

Likewise, at least 13 houses have been buried in a landslide that occurred early Friday morning at Lidi village in Jugal Rural Municipality-2 of Sindhupalchowk district.

As many as 15 people from 13 houses damaged by the landslides have come in contact with local authorities while members of at least five households have gone missing, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Madhav Kafle.

As the disaster site lies at a remote area making it difficult to reach there in time on foot for rescue, preparations are underway to fly to the area on a helicopter, according to the DSP Kafle.

“The 15 survivors that were able to make their way out of the landslide debris have been moved to nearby Lapsechaur,” informed Kafle.
