UPDATE: The government has rolled backed from its decision to lift travel ban for those who want to leave Kathmandu for their hometowns, only one-and-half hours after announcing it.

The decision was taken back after much pressure from the provincial governments, saying that the nation-wide lockdown would be meaningless if people were allowed to leave Kathmandu.

NOTE: This is a developing story. Updates will be added as they come.

The government has decided to allow people to leave Kathmandu and reach their hometowns.

The lift in travel ban will be applicable tomorrow and day after tomorrow.

Ishwor Pokhrel, coordinator of the High-level Committee formed to curb the spread of coronavirus, decided to lift the travel ban for those who want to leave Kathmandu and reach their hometowns. The decision was taken at a meeting held with the concerned ministers yesterday.

Many people have been forced to stay in Kathmandu amid a lack of resources as they couldn’t leave the town after the government’s sudden announcement for a nation-wide lockdown.

Discussions regarding how to send such people home is underway at the Home Ministry.

Entry into Kathmandu, however, will not be allowed.
